Many people claim to be Christians. Yes, there are Christians but some of them are not Christians anything, more than they inherit religious rituals from their parents.
A real Christian is identified by the personal relationship with God.
But because of sin, our relationship had been married by sin. We are dead towards God because of SIN. We were actually enemies of God and the wrath of God lived upon us.
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, Ephesians 2:1
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them. John 3:36
Jesus came to this earth to restore our broken relationship with God. We had been created for relationship. We have been created in his image and after his likeness for a relationship.
When one receives Christ who paid the full debt of our sin as a savior God receives the person as daughter and son into his family
But how can we check we have a personal relationship with God. These points can help to judge to know whether we have a personal relationship with God.
1. Founded on the word of God.
In the life of the person who has a personal relationship with God, the word of God comes first in whatever he thinks, says and does in his life. His life principles are based on the word and not on any traditional teachings. The word of God has a final authority in his life and not any religion leader.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:122
2. Knowing God not just about him.
Many people know about God. They heard how God works and they heard a lot about him. They don’t have a firsthand knowledge of God. They haven’t tasted God’s fatherhood in their daily lives. They don’t see God at work in their lives. They don’t have a personal encounter with him.
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—1 John 1:1-2
3. Fellowship with God daily.
When we have a personal relationship with God, we hunger and thirst for his presence in our lives. We want to be with Him all the time. We want to talk to Him. We want to listen to what he has to say every moment of our lives. We have a father-son relationship with him. We call him father and he answers to us.
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— John 1:12
4. We follow Jesus. In whatever we do, we want to live according to his teachings. We obey him at any cost. We actually live for him and for Him only.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20
5. Jesus lives in us
We know Him working in us. We know His presence. We know His power because of His abiding presence in us. We are guided by him from within us. He lives and walks in us.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
