The Secret Instead

Man is created in the image of God. Man can only succeed by teaming up with God. A man can’t be neutral. You can’t be successful in Christian life without action.

Even when the Bible tells you not to do something, it also tells you what to do instead. You can’t be ideal. You can’t be neutral. Instead of worrying, pray. You have to channel the energy of worry into that of prayer. You can’t just block the energy without rechanneling it in the right direction.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6

You can’t protect yourself from sin by doing nothing instead. No. You substitute sin with righteousness. You were created to do something, not to be ideal.

Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. Romans 8:13

Whether you want to be filled is out of the question. The question is, "What will you be filled with?

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit, and be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit; Ephesians 5:18

The channel can’t be empty. It must be filled and occupied with something. Take advantage of it to fill it with the right material. You can’t just not think about sin; you have to actively think about the word of God and meditate upon it.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will. Romans 12:2

You can’t just avoid conforming to the pattern of the world unless you actively renew your mind. You can’t just succeed in not having the mind of the flesh without doing something about it. You have to have the mind of a spirit.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. Romans 8:5

You can either use the spirit or the flesh. You can’t have none of them.
