7 Ways to Deal with Disappointments

We all come across disappointments. We may face situations that we have never dreamed of facing them one day. We may face something we thought God wouldn’t allow us to face. Disappointments are painful. When we know how to handle them, we bear the pain. These are the things that help us in times of disappointments.
  • Assess the worst case scenario
In disappointment times situations are so mixed up that we don’t really think right. The trauma clouds our judgments.
Many times, some of the things we think we can’t survive with, are proven to be the things we can actually survive with. So face the worst case scenario and you will realize that you can deal with it. It isn’t beyond control.
The fear of the unknown weakens us more than the actual situation. So don’t be scared to think about the worst case scenario. Unless we lose a “need”, we don’t realize that it was just a want.
Some of the situations that look to swallow us aren’t as bad as they look if we look at the detail. Remember God’s ways are higher
Trust God that God is good and that His ways are higher than yours.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8, 9
  • Ask God to give you wisdom. I like one of the definitions of wisdom. It is the ability to know what to do when you don’t know what to do.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:2, 5
  • Trust God Trust God that God doesn’t allow more than you can bear. See yourself as God sees you. We are more glorified and capable than we see ourselves.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. 1 Corinthians 10:13
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. Isaiah 40:28
  • Rejoice in the Lord We have no guarantee that situations don’t disappoint us. We have to rejoice in the Lord if we can’t rejoice in anything else.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Philippians 4:4
  • No one has the key God is what really matters. Others don’t really matter.
This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD. Jeremiah 9:24
  • Relax God is in control.
God is in control of the world situations. Nothing catches the Lord by Surprise. If anything happens, it is either his will or he allows it. God has the final word.
The Lord brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. “For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world. 1 Samuel 2:6-8
