God is good. Good is so good that his goodness can’t be
compared with anyone’s goodness.
We are limited. When we hear a word, we limit the meaning of
the word with our experience. Our imagination can’t go beyond our experiences.
When we hear the word goodness, we are limited in the experience we have with
any goodness in our lives.
Our interpretation of goodness is limited. For instance,
when someone says "God is good" we may guess, but we can’t imagine
goodness beyond the goodness we see in the best person we know. That is the
reason Jesus qualified the word goodness further, not to be confused with the
goodness of the earthly father.
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good
gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good
gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11
If you limit the goodness of God with the best person's
goodness, you know you get it wrong.
The goodness of God can’t be compared with any person’s
goodness. Here are the seven reasons
- God’s
understanding is unsearchable. God knows everything. There is nothing he
doesn’t know. He uses his vast knowledge for our good.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the
everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired
or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom Isaiah 40:28
-
God is able. Not only God use his unsearchable
wisdom for our good, God also use all his might for our goodness.
“I know that you can
do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted. Job 42:2
- God is
love. God’s motive can’t be doubted. God only loves. We practice love, but we are
limited as our love may be mixed with greed and selfishness. We are in a
continuous struggle on earth. Our goodness may not be as perfect as God’s.
God’s goodness is perfect with his love.
- God
doesn’t change. God knows everything; his understanding is unsearchable. Every
good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the
heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
- God
lives in heaven. God isn’t in any way tempted with anything we are tempted,
God's goodness is perfect.
- God is
the reference. God isn’t only good. He is the reference of goodness. He is the
very standard of goodness. Whatever he says is good, it is. Whatever he says is
not good, it is not.
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness
for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter
Isaiah 5:20
